| A small advice. 25 Nov 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela. |
This has got nothing to do with photography, but it will improve the quality of your life if you will visit my brother's myspace and will listen to these two songs. We used to do music together for many years and my goal also was to do something in music as a profession, but at some point when I discovered photography, I slowly drifted away from playing music. I was so interested in photography that I just couldn't focus seriously enough in doing both things. It's all or nothing. And besides, my brother is the talented one from us two in music...so I think it was a smart decision to step out from that scene and let him do his own thing. According to my brother, these two songs are "just crappy B-class songs"... Yeah, right... Being super self critical...that thing runs in the family. Picture here is of Ludmilko. Muj milacku. |

| Mmmm provinssirockleftovers! 22 Nov 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen. |
![]() When putting the Provinssi story together I decided to cut most of the band photos out, because if they aren't really interesting or special, they're worth nothing. They don't bring out the feeling of being in the first row when your favorite song goes off. A lot of people shoot festivals and shoot only the bands and waste few pathetic wideangle shots on the audience, which for me is a disgrace. It's not about the bands, it never was. ![]() When I was working at Keskipohjanmaa last summer, I had talks with the visual department head honcho Jukka Lehojärvi about shooting festivals and music in general. And to some degree I agree with him that it is difficult to get great images in the pit (in front of the stage) because you're limited to three songs of warm-up, smoke, and smaller hits in the catalog. It's hard to work out of the box in the pit, you usually end up with similar pictures like the next man, and that's not good enough. ![]() Enough with how these pics got cut out. Now I'll bitch about how much harder the festivals, and the band organizations make this shit for us photographers. It is insane. Usually you have to sign a release which pretty much gives those guys the right to sell your grandma. And even if you sign it, you won't get to shoot because suddenly they limit the photographer amout to 5 biggest magazines. And you have to work undercover in the audience with 15 securityguards roaming around trying to bust your vigilante ass. But yeah, it is good to limit the media number so that not every student magazine get to waste space with their pocket digitals. It's a double-edged sword. Everything is. ![]() If it happens that you can go and shoot a headlining act in the main stage, you propably can't shoot in the area between the audience and the stage, but there is a small 2x2 meter section reserved for all 23 of you. And propably half of the 23 photogs are wearing backbags.. And the rest just post in their position and refuse to rotate positions. Sheesh. Whoa I love to bitch about stuff that will never change, not for the better atleast! Thanks for reading! |

| No title... 19 Nov 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela. |
I have been lately super busy doing my new project... so that I forgot to post to the blog, sorry... Right now, I don't have anything to write about (as usual) so I'll just post this new old picture. The image was taken a long time ago, but I found it just few days ago. I think that there is something quite disturbing in this picture... EDIT: Yeah...I forgot to show you those wheelchair pages... Well, maybe next time :-P |
